PHIL PARKINSON knew Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds would be attending their first Wrexham match against Maidenhead but the Reds' boss didn't tell his players that the Hollywood stars would be present.

Rumours have been rife that the duo, who completed their high profile takeover of the club in February, would make their first appearance at The Racecourse on Saturday for the Reds' home match against Torquay United.

But just before the National League game against Maidenhead kicked-off at York Road, Deadpool star Reynolds and McElhenney, famous for his role as Ron in 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia', suddenly appeared and took their place in the main stand.

It was a surprise visit by the pair but Parkinson knew the chairmen would be there, although the Reds boss didn't tell the players because he didn't want them to be distracted.

"Shaun Harvey told me they were coming so I was aware of that but we kept it quiet from the players," said Parkinson.

"We just didn't want any distractions so we could focus on the job.

"Whether the lads got a wind of it - obviously there was a lot more film crew around than there normally is - I don't know, but we just keep it quiet and tried to concentrate and prepare for the game."

When asked whether he spoke to or saw the duo before the game, Parkinson added: "Not all.

"They were just trying to keep a low profile but I imagine it was fairly difficult to be low profile!

"They just let us get on with it."

There was a sense of shock and excitement around the ground, especially among the sizeable away following when Wrexham supporters saw the duo being escorted to their seats along with minders and club officials whilst being filmed.

Parkinson, appointed manager in July, is set to meet the actors ahead of the Torquay showdown.

"It is a great story, it is great for the area; it is fantastic," said Parkinson.

"They have been very supportive since I have been here, they try and do everything to build a structure at the club to take the club forward for many years.

"We look forward to meeting them later in the week."

Wrexham will be aiming to get back to winning ways after losing 3-2 against Maidenhead who took a two-goal lead .

Down to 10 men following the dismissal of Bryce Hosannah, Paul Mullin reduced the deficit in first half injury time and it was one-way traffic with Jordan Davies equalising.

However, the Magpies scored a 74th minute winner although Wrexham lost, Parkinson hailed the fighting spirit shown by his players in front of the club owners.

"They've seen the team give everything and fight every inch of the way," said Parkinson.

"There was nothing wrong with the spirit, determination and togetherness in the group and the support was absolutely outstanding once again.

"I am really disappointed for them that we haven't been able to come away with at least draw but that is football, it can be a brutal industry.

"Mistakes get punished and they were tonight."
