LIAM MCALINDEN wants to reach the 10-game mark with Wrexham still in and around the play-off places but the midfielder admits the Reds will have to negotiate three "big" fixtures to realise that target.

Phil Parkinson's side, installed as title favourites going into a 14th season in non-league, sit seventh in the standings after picking up three wins, three draws and a solitary defeat at Grimsby in their opening seven matches.

Wrexham head to Stockport County, who are expected to challenge for automatic promotion, this Saturday before another away game at struggling Aldershot the following weekend.

Leaders Chesterfield, currently five points ahead of Wrexham, are the visitors to The Racecourse on Tuesday October 5 and McAlinden is looking forward to three huge encounters.

"The start to the season we have had has been tough so far and Stockport is another game that we will go into with all intentions of going there and winning," said McAlinden.

"The two after that are Aldershot and Chesterfield so they don't get any easier but if we can still be in and around them play-off places and pushing on come October 5.

"The next three games are going to be big for us."

Wrexham won 1-0 at home to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.

The Daggers went into the game top of the table and McAlinden was pleased to come through another tricky test.

"We have probably played six of the so-called favourites so far, and we are still up there competing," said McAlinden. "It is only a good sign.

"A lot of the players are new players gelling and it is only positive signs.

"For the defenders getting 1-0 wins back-to-back at home, obviously they are delighted and we played a bit more front foot football and created chances.

"If we all start gelling and being a bit more clinical in front of goal, it is only going to be a good season."
