JAKE HYDE is expected to return to action when Wrexham continue their pre-season programme against Fleetwood Town today.

The striker, a summer signing, was not involved as the Reds beat Tamworth 5-0 in Saturday's friendly but is likely to get some game-time against the League One outfit.

However, manager Phil Parkinson says centre-back Harry Lennon, another new recruit whose 2020-21 campaign with Southend was marred with injury and absent for Wrexham’s opening two pre-season matches, will continue to be monitored.

"Jake will play some minutes," said Parkinson.

"We will see how Harry is. He has had a really good week training so he has made progress.

"As we explained when he came in, he has missed a lot of the work towards the end of last season and we have got to be careful with him but he is progressing well."

Parkinson is looking forward to building on Saturday's comfortable win at seventh tier Tamworth when Wrexham face Fleetwood at the Cod Army's training base.

"We need the games now," said Parkinson.

"Each game offers a different test and I am learning all the time.

"A lot of teams at the moment are like us. They are just mix and matching, and taking each day as it comes with the Covid situation.

"We will go up there and look to improve on Saturday, and get other players minutes.

"That is the key now. We have got to get to that first game of the season with as many players ready and up to speed as possible."

Parkinson is still looking to add to his squad before Wrexham kick-off a 14th season in non-league with a clash against Yeovil Town at The Racecourse on Saturday August 21.

"I wouldn't say in the next couple of days but we need to add to what we have got," said Parkinson.

"We are not strong enough in certain departments yet but we know that.

"There is a lot of work going on to identify the right players and try and get them, but the lads who have been in with us since day one have been great and they include the trialists.

"They have really bought into how we want the lads to play and I have enjoyed working with them."
