THE games are counting down and competition for a play-off place remains fierce but Dean Keates wants Wrexham to make sure they remain in control of their own destiny during the run-in.

Saturday's comfortable 3-0 win against Yeovil at The Racecourse extended the unbeaten run to six games and keeps the Reds sixth in the National League with four matches to go.

Although Wrexham are finding some form at the crucial business end of the season, their play-off rivals are also picking up results as the race for a top-seven finish hots up with five clubs within six points of Keates' men.

But if the Reds win their remaining fixtures they would secure a play-off spot and Keates stressed the importance of ensuring his side's fate stays in their own hands.

"Everybody is finding their feet," said Keates.

"Dagenham are flying at the minute so they are having that sniff, Notts County have won two on the bounce now.

"I am aware of what everybody else is doing, as everybody else will be aware of what we are doing.

"It is in our control. We have got control of our own destiny so while it is in there, you don't let it go."

Keates isn't getting carried away despite Wrexham making a strong finish to the campaign as there is still work to be done to extend the season but he believes the Reds have answered their critics.

"It is a great little run, it only becomes even better if we are where we want to be after the Dagenham game," said Keates.

"There have been defeats, the group has been written off but it has galvanised us and it has brought us closer together.

"We will just go about our business; every time they go out, they will go out there to represent this football club and this town, and put pride and passion in the jersey.

"That was what our mandate was at the beginning of the season, to get us back to being competitive and put some pride back into the football club.

"As it stands we are doing that, but we have got four games left."

Goals from Shaun Pearson, Luke Young and Jordan Davies inside the opening half-an-hour secured victory over Yeovil.

More chances went begging, particularly in the first half, and although Keates was delighted with the performance he felt his side should have won by a bigger margin.

"I am not playing it down, the lads were outstanding," said Keates.

"We were efficient on what we done, organised, well-drilled, lads making the right runs and we kept our tempo.

"My biggest bug-bear is that it wasn't 7-0 and that is without me being disrespectful to Yeovil.

"I said to the players that we were a little bit sloppy in technique."

Keates, who made four changes from the side that started Monday's 2-2 draw at Maidenhead, felt Davies, Young, Dior Angus, Gold Omotayo and Cameron Green all should have added to the scoreline.

"Jordan had a good chance, Youngy has gone through and should have been more selfish, Dior has gone through twice and should have hit the target, Gold had one or two half attempts that he should have at least hit the target, and the keeper made a good save, and Cameron had a good chance at the start of the season half," added Keates.

"He got himself into a good area, he has to hit the goal and not the post.

"But I am not going to appear down-faced, we looked a threat throughout the game; the biggest bug-bear was not to win seven but we will take 3-0.

"We kept a clean sheet, there was no sloppiness as in last week's game against Solihull so we have learnt from it."
