ANDY MORRISON praised the character shown by his players as Connah's Quay Nomads came from behind to beat Barry Town and remain in the driving seat for a second successive Cymru Premier title - which could be theirs on Saturday.

Nomads were trailing one-nil at Jenner Park on Tuesday night but Morrison's men turned thing around in the final quarter of an hour as Callum Morris and Craig Curran scored in quick succession to clinch a 2-1 victory.

The win means Nomads remain two points ahead of second placed The New Saints, who secured a 3-0 win at Penybont, and Morrison praised his players for digging in to ensure the destiny of the title remains in the Deeside Stadium outfit's hands. "We have come up against a team who have tried everything to spoil the party," said Morrison..

"They are playing with an incredible freedom and the pressure will come on them when they get to the play-offs.

"That's when you'll see how brave they are on the ball because it's very easy when there's no pressure on.

"We are playing for the title so there is an element of edginess there; you don't want to be the person that makes a mistake. We spoke about that at half-time and we just laid our cards on the table.

"We had to go 1-0 down to show that character. That is when the lads have gone and said 'it doesn't matter now, the shackles are off, let's go and win the game', and we won.

"We had a 20 minute period where we totally dominated and we caused them no end of problems.

"It wasn't worthy of the champions in the first half but the second half was incredible."

Victory came at a cost as captain George Horan broke his nose and is likely to miss Saturday's penultimate fixture of the season at home to Caernarfon Town, while there were other casualties.

"George has broken his nose and I doubt he will be fit for Saturday," said Morrison. "Knowing George he will want to but it is too risky.

"Aaron Edwards' eye split open, Jamie Insall needs stitches in the back of his head but we go and win the game.

"We have taken it down to the last two games and we are two points clear.

"Incredible character from my players, incredible character from everyone involved in the squad because we are absolutely backs against the wall numbers-wise, fatigue-wise, because it's been Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday.

"It's easy when you have got nothing to play for but when you are the champions and you are going for the title, then that is a different sort of pressure altogether."
