THE feelgood factor has returned to The Racecourse following the club's high-profile takeover and Steve Watkin knows supporters can't wait to be back watching Wrexham matches.

Watkin was used to playing for his home-town club in front of big home crowds and decent sized away followings during the 1990s when Brian Flynn's Reds caused FA Cup shocks and won promotion to the third tier.

Wrexham are currently spending a 13th season in non-league but hopes of returning to the Football League have been given a boost with Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds taking over the club.

Games are currently being played behind closed doors because of the coronavirus pandemic but Watkin says that will all change when fans are allowed back in.

"It is brilliant what is going on at the moment with the takeover," said Watkin.

"It gives the club a great opportunity to get out of the National League where we have been far too long.

"I think everyone is really looking forward to going to watch Wrexham again."

Watkin admits having famous actors as owners of Wrexham "doesn't seem real".

"You can't believe it really, the same as everyone else," added Watkin. "It doesn't seem real.

"We have just got to enjoy it.

"Hopefully the investment will be in the right places and the new owners can take the club forward to where we want it to go."
