KWAME THOMAS hopes it is fourth time lucky and he goes on to score his hat-trick when he next bags two goals in a game.

Wrexham's top scorer netted a brace in Saturday's 4-1 win over Wealdstone at The Racecourse to take his tally for the season to eight goals.

It was the third time that Thomas has scored twice in a game for the Reds this season, with the striker also getting a double in victories over Sutton and Altrincham.

The woodwork denied Thomas a hat-trick in stoppage time against the Stones but the 25-year-old is looking to take home the match-ball the next time he gets two goals.

"I am always happy to be in the goals," said Thomas.

"I have got my personal aims that I want to reach so that is two more goals towards that.

"I probably should have had at least three goals. One has hit the bar at the end which happens but I am pleased to get two.

"That is three braces now and as soon as Jamie Reckord crossed it, I was thinking: 'This will be the hat-trick'.

"It wasn't to be but the biggest thing was we got the win and hopefully next time when I get two goals, I will make sure I get that third."

Thomas, who scored five of his goals during a fantastic February, praised striker partner Dior Angus and Tyler French - filling in as a wing-back - for presenting him with "tap-ins" at the weekend.

"I am thankful to my team-mates, especially Dior," said Thomas.

"The part he played in the second goal is brilliant, and obviously Tyler for the first goal.

"They both gave me tap-ins so credit to them."

Thomas opened his Wrexham account with the winner in the 1-0 success at Yeovil in October and his other Reds goal came in last month's 1-1 draw with Eastleigh.

The Spitfires stalemate was the only time that Wrexham haven't won when Thomas has scored this season, with the Reds yet to taste defeat when the frontman has found the back of the net.

"You want to score goals regardless but if your goals can contribute to wins, that is the main thing," said Thomas.

"It is only my goal at Eastleigh that hasn't contributed to a win but that was a draw so we haven't lost when I have scored.

"Hopefully I can keep on scoring but whoever scores, the main thing is we keep on winning."

Wrexham trailed at the interval against Wealdstone but a much improved second half performance led to Dean Keates' side turning things around to win and move up to fifth in the National League.

"We started off a bit lethargic and in the first half we didn't really push our game onto them," said Thomas.

"We didn't execute the game-plan the gaffer gave us and that is what he told us at half-time; we were being a bit apprehensive and we needed to put our game onto them.

"I think we did exactly what he told us to do and it was no surprise it ended in a win.

"In the future, if we stick to the game-plan the manager gives us we will be alright."
