TYLER FRENCH is pleased with his contribution since joining Wrexham but the centre-back insists there is more to come from him and he attempts to earn a new contract.

The 22-year-old arrived at The Racecourse before the winter transfer window closed from Bradford City, putting pen to paper on a contract until the end of the season.

Getting sent off on his debut when Wrexham drew 1-1 at Eastleigh on February 2 was not the ideal start but after serving a one-match ban, French has started the last four games.

Wrexham did not have a shot on target as they played out a goalless draw with Hartlepool on Tuesday but French stressed the importance of keeping a clean sheet after the Reds lost 3-0 at Aldershot last weekend.

“Since coming in, I have noticed that the players around me are all good players but I don’t think we have played as well as we can,” said French.

“We weren’t quite at it against Hartlepool but it is a good point and we got a clean sheet.

“That is five games I have played in now and two clean sheets.

“It was good to get back to another clean sheet after Saturday when we conceded three poor goals.”

French admitted on his Twitter account that Wrexham had underperformed at Aldershot when the six-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Dean Keates’ side never got the win they wanted against Pools but French felt there was an improvement from the Reds’ defence.

“I was quite open about the Aldershot game, especially defensively,” said French.

“I wasn’t happy, no-one was happy, so it was good to get back to a clean sheet and a solid defensive performance.”

French is happy with the part he has played since signing for Wrexham and he hopes to keep performing well to extend his stay in north Wales.

“I am happy with how it has gone,” said French, who made 19 appearances for Bradford this term before moving on.

“I am still getting used to how players play but I feel like I am settling in well.

“I know there is more to come and it will come sooner rather than later.

“I am here to the end of the season but I would love to be part of the project going forward.”

A lack of creativity meant Wrexham never looked like scoring against Hartlepool and French added: “That is something we need to work on.

“Conditions did not help but the back three, we tried to give the foundations for the frontmen to maybe nick a goal.

“But we take a point and we move on to Wealdstone.”

Wealdstone, hovering just above the relegation zone, head to The Racecourse without a league win in seven outings.

Although he knows the Stones cannot be taken lightly, French says it is a game that seventh placed Wrexham must win to maintain the promotion challenge.

“They are going to be battling for a result but we need all three points to keep us going up the table where we want to be,” said French.

“It has got to be three points for us but it is not going to be an easy game.

“It doesn’t matter where you are in the table, every game is a hard game and anyone can beat anyone.”
