TWO former Wrexham players will be heading to Wembley next month in the Football League Trophy Final.

Tranmere manager Keith Hill, who was Denis Smith’s first ever signing as Wrexham boss in 2001, masterminded a 2-0 win at Oxford United to set up a final date against Sunderland or Lincoln City.

On the scoresheet for Rovers, who are also flying high in League Two, were former Reds winger Kieron Morris, who scored four goals in 13 games on loan at The Racecourse in 2015.

Two of those goals were in an FA Trophy semi-final win at Torquay to seal Wrexham a third trip to Wembley in the space of two years.

As for the delighted Rovers boss Hill, he said: “We were excellent. You’ve got to give the lads credit, the way that they work, the way that they fight is brilliant. We could lose that football match but still be proud of the way they represented Tranmere Rovers. I’m really pleased that the competition is still alive, it’s a major trophy for League One and League Two sides - to get to Wembley but we’ve done it.

“Some of the victories we’ve had to get to Wembley - Manchester City, Peterborough, Leicester, now Oxford, who are an excellent, very attractive proposition to get promotion from League One.”
