Wrexham AFC timeline since the club was rescued by the Supporters Trust.

December 2011: Wrexham Supporters Trust officially became the new owners of the club.

The takeover finally went through having been held up by the need to satisfy FA rules concerning existing debtors, following a long period of financial problems at The Racecourse.

Wrexham became a fan-owned club after completing a deal with previous owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts.

2012-2019: The club's financial position improved under Trust ownership.

On the pitch, Wrexham won the 2012-13 FA Trophy but were beaten in the Conference play-off final by Newport County the same season.

However, things went downhill on the pitch and it would be six years until the Reds would secure a play-off spot again but the promotion dream was ended in the eliminator tie by Eastleigh as the 2018-19 campaign came to a disappointing end.

March 2020: The 2019-20 National League season ended abruptly because of the coronavirus crisis and was eventually suspended, with Wrexham narrowly avoiding relegation to the sixth tier when the final table was calculated using a 'Points Per Game' method.

Dean Keates' side were preparing for a 13th campaign in non-league.

September 14, 2020: The club announced it had been approached to be bought by two "extremely well-known individuals of high net worth" who were looking to purchase the entire shared capital of Wrexham AFC Limited.

As well as the purchase of the club for a nominal sum, they also intended to immediately invest £2 million into the club.

A Special General Meeting of members was called by the Wrexham Supporters Trust Board.

September 23: Members voted overwhelmingly for talks to proceed and Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were revealed as the potential new owners.

A spokesman said: "In due course, Mr McElhenney and Mr Reynolds will put forward their vision for Wrexham AFC and proposal for members to vote on at a second Special General Meeting."

News that the two high-profile investors looking to buy the club were two extremely famous actors was welcomed by Reds supporters. Wrexham also received global publicity after being linked with the pair.

October 3: The 2020-21 campaign finally kicked off with McElhenney and Reynolds taking a keen interest from afar, using social media to show they were watching matches that were being streamed live on the internet with supporters unable to attend matches due to the pandemic.

The duo took to twitter to show their support for Wrexham.

October 29: The takeover took a huge step forward when notice was given of an Extraordinary Ballot of WST members.

Wrexham Supporters Trust held a virtual meeting on Sunday November 8 with McElhenney and Reynolds giving a presentation and outlining their vision for the club, followed by questions and answers.

The high-profile duo said they wanted to make Wrexham “a global force”

A vote on whether 2,108 qualifying members want Reynolds and McElhenney to take over the running of the club opened on Monday, November 9, lasting until the following Sunday, with a decision announced on Monday, November 16.

The takeover could only go ahead if at least 75 per cent of those who respond agree.

November 16: It was announced that Wrexham fans voted overwhelmingly in favour of a club takeover by the Hollywood actors.

Out of more than 2,000 trust members eligible to vote, 1,809 approved, 26 were against and nine abstained.

A WST statement said: "Subject to final agreement, league and FA confirmation - the RR McReynolds Company, LLC will take 100% control of Wrexham Football Club Limited from the WST.

"Both parties will now proceed with finalising the details of the takeover, and we will update Wrexham supporters as soon as we can."

Wrexham received global publicity as the news captured the imagination of people all over the world, and filming began to start for a documentary charting the takeover.

November 28: Rob McElhenney dropped a big hint that Peter Moore - former Chief Executive at Liverpool - could take on a similar role with Wrexham when the takeover is completed.

November 29. Peter Moore revealed he will act as an advisor to the new owners and he contacted the Leader's Wrexham FC reporter Richard Williams to do an exclusive interview.

December 23: Wrexham announced a statement saying that progress was being made on the takeover.

January 19: The Trust announced that contracts had been exchanged with Reynolds and McElhenney as the takeover moved another step closer.

January 27: The takeover still hadn't been completed but the actors announced they were making a donation to allow Dean Keates to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closed.

February 5: The Trust announced that the takeover has been approved by the Financial Conduct Authority.

"Both parties shall now work to formally complete the sale of shares in Wrexham AFC next week," it said.

February 9: Reynolds and McElhenney are confirmed as the new owners.
