WREXHAM suffered a second defeat in a row as the Reds lost 3-1 against leaders Torquay United at Plainmoor.
The top of the table Gulls were quick out of the blocks and took a fifth minute lead.
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans played a cross-field ball to Ben Whitfield who cut inside from the left and he fired low into the bottom corner with the first chance of the game.
Torquay made it 2-0 in the 17th minute after referee Scott Simpson awarded a penalty for handball when a shot from a corner was blocked.
Asa Hall smashed the ball home from the spot to put the home side, who welcomed Gulls fans back to a match for the first time this season, well in control.
But Dean Keates' Wrexham reduced the deficit after 19 minutes.
Elliott Durrell sent in a corner and Theo Vassell's header found the back of the net as the centre-back registered his first goal of the season.
They next goal was crucial and Torquay scored it on 73 minutes to secure victory.
The lively Whitfield played in Lemonheigh-Evans who got the better of Durrell and he fired past Dibble as Wrexham, beaten 1-0 by Altrincham on Tuesday, paid the price for their poor start in Devon.
Wrexham (4-4-2): Dibble; Horsfield, Kelleher, Vassell, Reckord; Rutherford, Harris, Young, Durrell; Thomas (Yussuf 42), Bickerstaff (Jeffrey 55). Subs: Hall-Johnson, Davies, Jarvis.
