CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS showed their class to beat Cefn Druids 5-0 and make it four successive top-flight victories on the spin.

Michael Wilde broke the deadlock midway through the first-half, but Nomads had to wait until nine minutes into the second period to double their advantage through Callum Morris.

Midfielder Morris added two more, one from the spot, to complete his hat-trick, with Wilde adding his second of the game late on.

Nomads boss Andy Morrison, who recalled both Wilde and Morris to his starting line-up, said: “You come away to a place, where in this fixture last year, we lost 2-0 and you win 5-0 and their goalkeeper is man of the match - he was magnificent.

“There must have been five, six or seven chances where he’s pulled off an incredible save or they’ve got blocks on the line.

“We are in a good space at the moment, we’re playing well and creating lots of chances.

“We’ve gone four back-to-back victories after an incredible performance against Tbilisi, where we were magnificent.

“We went away from that game and you could have felt sorry for yourself with only one sub going into the Penybont game, but somehow we managed to galvanise everyone and take 12 points from 12.

“We are playing well and creating lots and lots of chances and we’ve been able to mix things up.

“We talk about the way they play, but I think if you look at the second-half, we dominated the ball, moved it really well and when we’ve wanted to make the right decision, it was a little bit better.

“The weight of pass was better, the run was better, the timing was better and the arrival was better.”

Druids’ assistant head coach, Jayson Starkey was in agreement with Morrison regarding the visitors’ performance.

“We were still in the game at half-time,” said Starkey. “We wanted to stay in the game for as long as possible and when we got a chance the aim was to capitalise.

“But they’ve scored a second after 10 minutes of the second-half and that’s knocked the stuffing out of us. They showed their class. They were passing the ball around really well, they play some good football when they want to because they’ve got really good players.

“The saying is that cream rises to the top and it did.”

There were some positives to take for Druids, who entertain Aberystwyth Town on Tuesday evening at The Rock.

“Our performance was pleasing,” continued Starkey. “Especially after Newtown when we needed more hunger and desire.

“We didn’t stop working and it was only when the boys’ legs had gone that we were out of the game.”

Aberystwyth head to Wrexham having lost 2-1 to 10-man Barry Town United.

Steff Davies gave Aber the lead, before Clayton Green saw red for Barry, who produced a wonderful fightback to take the points courtesy of goals from Kayne McLaggon and Jordan Cotterill.

Huw Griffiths’ Caernarfon head to the Deeside Stadium to face Nomads on Tuesday night on the back of a 3-0 win at Cardiff Met.

Josh Tibbetts kept out a penalty from Eliot Evans before Sion Bradley’s spot-kick and goals from Darren Thomas and Cai Jones won it for Caernarfon.
