THERE'S set to be a new team on the Welsh domestic scene with Connah's Quay Town announcing that they intend to compete in the 2020/21 season.

A statement explained: "In collaboration with junior grassroots club Connah's Quay Tigers, who have supported us massively in setting up the new club, our aim is to provide their junior players a gateway to initially senior and, in time, youth football locally."

The newest Connah's Quay team will use Dock Road as their home ground, work set to start this week in order to improve the facility.

The statement continued: "We are overjoyed with our exciting plans that are now underway.

"The overhaul of the playing surface at Dock Road in Connah's Quay, which also includes essential work being carried out around the perimeter of the pitch, will start in the next few days, together with improvements to the changing rooms that will commence this week."

And Connah's Quay Town are now looking to put the right backroom staff in place, hopefully by the end of the month.

"Now that we have a solid platform to work off, we will endeavour to put the right team manager and coaching set-up in place over the next two weeks," read the statement.

"There is so much work being carried out behind the scenes by Debi Ross, Steve Sharples and Rob Ross with extra help and assistance coming from Martin 'Wiggy' Bainbridge and councillor Andrew Dunbobbin, of which is great appreciated.

"Over the coming days and weeks we hope to deliver more positive news regarding club sponsorship."

Current Connah's Quay Nomads director of football, Jay Catton, was delighted to see Town announce their plans to take to the field.

He tweeted: "Great to see the reforming of @CQTownFC announced yesterday. What a few years we had down Dock Road as original partner club to @the_nomads competing in the Welsh Alliance. Huge good luck to all involved in the reformed club. #cqtown"
