CODY RUBERTO struck twice as Stuart Gelling ended his barren start to life as head coach of Cefn Druids.

Ruberto, handed his first start by Gelling, opened and closed the scoring as Druids played out a 2-2 draw at home to Aberystwyth.

The double took Ruberto’s haul against Aberystwyth this season to four, the Canadian saying: “I’m happy about that, but obviously I thought we could have got three points because the team played well.

“We worked hard all week and it’s showing on the pitch, we’ve just got to pick up those points.”

Gelling was equally pleased for Ruberto, who has had to bide his time for a chance to shine under his new boss.

“He a brilliant lad,” said Gelling of the energetic Ruberto. “I said to him ‘score goals and you stay in the team’ and he took his chance.”

Marc Williams almost immediately cancelled out Ruberto’s opener, while Mathew Jones scored the rebound after Michael Jones kept out his initial spot-kick just past the hour mark.

It was Gelling’s first positive result since taking his place in the Druids’ dugout after league and Welsh Cup defeats to Carmarthen and Caernarfon, the Ancients moving level on points with Cardiff Met in seventh.

“I believe we’ve seen some progress over the last couple of games,” said Gelling. “We are playing better football and that’s a big positive.

“It is important to back up those words with results though, and we’ve managed to do that.

“I am disappointed that their goals have come from two mistakes, but we are better off than before the game."
