ANDY MORRISON has dismissed talk of a Connah’s Quay Nomads double - insisting that European football is the target.

Nomads were knocked out of the Welsh Cup by Cardiff Met last weekend, but with a four-point lead at the top of the table and the League Cup already in the trophy cabinet, Morrison was asked about the double.

“All we’re interested in is European football. That was our remit at the start of the season,” said the Nomads’ boss.

“After the cuts we had in squad and budget, we collectively agreed that European football would be a fantastic achievement and we are on course for that still, so we have to keep probing, working hard and taking things one game at a time.”

Morrison knows Friday night’s trip to third placed Bala is as tough as Nomads have to face between now and the end of the season, the former Manchester City captain calling for focus.

“We’ve got to go again,” declared Morrison. “We’ve got to go there and get a result, because it’s going to be really close, really tight.

“Bala are knocking on the door, they are asking questions and we need to go there and find a way of getting a result.

“Hopefully the conditions are a little bit better and the week’s rest will have done us good, because I thought we were a little bit flat.

“ I thought two or three players were probably not good enough, made poor decisions and there seemed a desperation to get a goal and that hurried our play up.”

The likes of Michael Bakare, pictured, Sameron Dool, Jay Owen and Ryan Wignall are pushing for starts for Nomads.

Scott Ruscoe is hoping The New Saints have put their tricky run of form behind them after thumping Newtown 6-1 in the Welsh Cup.

Saints had started the second phase of the campaign with two defeats and a draw to slip four points off the pace.

“We haven’t had a good spell, but that doesn’t make us a bad team,” said Ruscoe ahead of tonight’s home clash with Barry Town. “It’s a tricky period, everyone has them, and the good teams battle through, work together and find solutions.”

Elsewhere this evening, Caernarfon entertain Newtown.
