ROB LAINTON won’t be fazed by the bizarre goal he conceded in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Yeovil.

That is the view of Wrexham boss Dean Keates who saw his goalkeeper, one of the Reds’ most consistent performers this season, drop the ball to the ground to show that Courtney Duffus was stopping him kicking from his hands.

The Glovers striker fired into an empty net to open the scoring but Keates, convinced that the goal should have been disallowed for an infringement, has total confidence in Lainton.

“I have seen it back and nine times out of 10, it gets pulled back for ungentlemanly conduct,” said Keates. “Why, I have no idea.

“As a goalkeeper, if you make a mistake nine times out of 10 it ends up in the back of your net.

“If a centre-forward makes a mistake, you have got your midfield, back four and goalkeeper to go through.

"He has made a mistake but to an extent, it was ungentlemanly conduct and it shouldn't have been given as a goal.

“We just get on with it. Rob has been outstanding for us, he has made good saves and stuff like that."
