BUCKLEY TOWN were unable to ease their Cymru North relegation concerns after suffering a 2-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Porthmadog.

In a game ruined by strong winds, Porthmadog were able to capitalise with Shaun Cavanagh scoring a quickfire brace before the hour.

“The game was really dictated by the wind, which was blowing from end-to-end,” said Buckley boss Dan Moore. “In the first-half, when we were attacking with the wind, we didn’t make the most of it by going in 0-0 at half-time.

“Apart from one or two opportunities, we didn’t really create too many clear chances to score a goal, which was really disappointing.

“In their half and final third we showed a lack of quality, a lack of composure. Their goalkeeper didn’t have a proper save to make in the whole game.

“Going in 0-0 at half-time certainly gave Porthmadog the advantage after our goalkeeper, Joe Makaruk, had nothing to do first-half.

We struggled to get up the pitch in the second-half, like they did in the first-half, but their goals were disappointing.

“The game was won or lost basically down to who made the most of the wind advantage and going in at 0-0 we knew we’d be up against it, even though we defended our box well.

“When you take everything into account - conditions, opposition and our lack of game time - it’s not the end of the world.

“Porthmadog have a starting XI that finished in the top four last season and they’ve added Cai Jones and Shaun Cavanagh, so they are a good team.”

Third from bottom Porthmadog are now just three points behind Buckley and four adrift of Llangefni, who occupy the final spot outside the drop zone.

Josh Jones scored from the spot as Ruthin won 1-0 at Llangefni, who had Cai Roberts sent-off, while Mitch Bryant and Tom McCready scored in Colwyn Bay’s 2-1 success over Penrhyncoch.
