Thomas Walley added to his litany of athletics honours as he was crowned senior men's pole vault champion.

The Wrexham AC athlete cleared 4.56 metres to top the Welsh rankings at the Indoor Championships in Cardiff last weekend.

Though falling short of his 4.66 metre-PB, Walley still finished well clear of his nearest compatriots Ieuan Hosgood (4.46 metres) and Fynley Caudrey (4.36 metres) in second and third respectively.

Victory maintained Walley's fine record at the Championships, having retained his U20 pole vault and triple jump titles in the Welsh capital last year.

Clubmate Rhys Jones was also among the medals this year as he claimed bronze in the triple jump.

A season's best leap of 12.99 metres earned him a podium spot, behind fellow Welshmen Tom Atkinson (13.38 metres) and Ryan Edwards (13.04 metres).

Wrexham clubmate Thomas Evans, a student at Manchester Metropolitan University, was in action at the latest Sale harriers Indoor Open.

Competing in the 600m, Evans clocked a season's best time of 1:29.17 to place third in his heat race.

Kendal athlete Jacob Aubrey (1:26.56) took the race honours ahead of Trafford's Jonny Stock (1:26.94) in second.

Deeside AC U17 athlete Hannah Smith (1:44.59) raced in the women's 600m and took second place behind teenage Chorley runner Lauren Waddington (1:40.92).

Joel Gomes maintained his solid recent form at the Tarren Hendre Fell Race in Abergynolwyn at the weekend.

After traversing the ascending six-mile course in 59:11, the Wrexham distance runner crossed the line in seventh place outright and third in the M40 section.

Wrecsam Tri runner Ben Goodfellow set the pace at the latest Erddig ParkRun - clocking 17:51 to top the rankings at the 5k time trial.

Wrexham AC teenager Harvey Davis was also in fine form, setting a new PB of 18:48 to finish third outright.

David Millington (22:320) was 13th on the day and he was followed over the line by Wrexham clubmates Ella Davis (25:29), Karl Moore (26:28), Richard Moulton (26:34), Peter Hughes (27:28) and Phil Walker (27:50).

Mike Robbins was Wrexham's fastest finisher at Wepre ParkRun, taking third place in 22:07.

Deeside teenager Ella Jones (23:11) was seventh on the day, with Deestriders' Angela Deeley hitting a PB time of 24:10 to place 13th.

Jay Jennions (25:25) followed on just ahead of Buckley Runners Chris Hunt (25:34) and Deestriders team mate Vincent Edwards (25:36).

It was a landmark weekend for Wrexham runner Billy Brown who completed his 50th ParkRun race.

To mark the occasion, Brown returned to the Strathclyde course where he ran his first 5k time trial and clocked 23:59 for 95th outright.
