CEFN DRUIDS are set to sign Jamie Reed - and the experienced frontman could be available to face Buckley Town in Saturday's Newfa Challenge Cup quarter-final.

Reed, who has played for the likes of York City, Chester and Bangor City, spent the first half of the current campaign at Northwich Victoria before announcing his departure last month.

And Druids have moved to snap up the 32-year-old as they bid to strengthen their squad ahead of the final 12 games of the Cymru Premier season.

Sporting director Huw Griffiths said: "He's a really experienced player who has a good goals-to-game ratio in the Cymru Premier.

"He's been training with us and he will bring experience and a bit more quality to our frontline.

"He's done some of his coaching badges and will bring a lot to the group."

Set to join Reed at The Rock is the versatile Stefan Edwards, who has played for a number of current top-flight clubs, including Airbus and Newtown.

"He's experienced, versatile and is a great athlete," said Griffiths. "He won't ever let me down because he is someone who always tries to do the right thing.

"He knows his game, he knows what he's good at and what he isn't."

The Ancients, meanwhile, have confirmed an affiliation with Portuguese outfit Portimonense.

The Primeira Liga side, who beat Wrexham 1-0 in a pre-season friendly last summer, will send players to The Rock to help their development.

Griffiths said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for the club and fantastic opportunity for a Cymru Premier team to get link up with a team in Portugal.

"To be able to forge links with an overseas club, which no other Cymru Premier side has done, it great.

"We will look at a plan for moving forward with the affiliation and how we can use Portimonense in the future. There's a chance to exchange players."

Portimonense currently sit third from bottom in the Portuguese top-flight, picking up just 12 points from their first 14 matches this season.
