SION TUDOR JONES was frustrated as Corwen were reminded about the ruthlessness of life in the second-tier at Ruthin.

There was nothing between the two teams until Llyr Morris converted a penalty on the hour mark, before the striker capped a 3-0 win late on after Craig Wilkinson had doubled the advantage.

“This league is absolutely ruthless,” said Jones. “A few people have said that it wasn’t a 3-0 game and it wasn’t, but if you make silly mistakes you get punished.

“We probably just about edged the first-half, which saw both teams have a couple of half chances, but they had the better of the second-half by a country mile.

“They were turning the screw, but I wouldn’t say they deserved the first goal, which was a calamity.

“We had time to clear the ball, but by the time we did we ended up bringing down Llyr for a dead cert penalty, which was so avoidable.

“That put us on the back-foot.”

Jones did see plenty of reasons to be positive going forward, however, continuing: “I would like to think we are making progress.

“We are organised and committed and our attitude and workrate is all good, we just need to make sure we add some quality.”

It was the “same old story” as Gresford Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Llanrhaeadr.

Matty Williams gave the visitors an early lead, but Jake Eyre, pictured, levelled and Gresford were frustrated in their attempts to pick up all three points.

“We are still not getting the results our performances deserve,” said Gresford assistant Nick Ward. “They defended well and they play to their strengths, but they’ve had one shot on target, while we’ve had five or six in the second-half.”

Bottom club Llanfair United were beaten 3-0 at home by Guilsfield, who had Callum Bromley, Adam Jenkins and Adam Davies on target, while Conwy came from behind to beat Llangefni 2-1.

Corrig McGonigle and Rob Jones won it for Conwy after Steffan Jones’ opener for Llangefni.

Holyhead Hotspur moved eight points clear at the top of the Welsh Alliance. The Division One title-favourites won 3-2 at Mynydd Llandegai while Llanrwst are third thanks to a 5-1 win over Llanberis.
