NIALL MCGUINNESS doesn’t care who takes Flint Town United’s penalties - as long as they are scored.

Boss McGuinness was a happy man as the Silkmen beat Flintshire rivals Buckley Town 3-0, top scorer Mark Cadwallader converting an early spot-kick.

Usual taker Richie Foulkes was backed to continue taking penalties, despite a second miss of the season in the 2-2 draw with Conwy, but it was Cadwallader who fired Flint in-front on Saturday.

“Richie offered it to Caddy again and he said ‘yes’,” said McGuinness. “It’s their decision, I won’t be telling them who takes the pens.

“They are good friends, they had a chat before it was taken and Caddy stepped up and scored.

“Whoever is confident will step up and all that matters is that the penalty is scored.”

Foulkes did get himself on the scoresheet prior to the interval after a one-two with Nathan Brown, before Cadwallader got his second and Flint’s third soon after the restart.

“That ended the game and ended the entertainment,” said McGuinness of Cadwallader’s second goal. “The game died as we fell into a trap of taking too many touches, although I can’t be too critical because it just went flat.

“I was delighted to keep a clean sheet. We hadn’t done that recently, so I’m made up with that.”

On his side’s performance as a whole, McGuinness was delighted to end a two-game winless streak.

“First and foremost it was great to get back to winning ways,” said McGuinness. “We were in full control and we scored a goal through Caddy, who looked onside, before the penalty.

“Once we got that first goal we settled down and, without being disrespectful to Buckley, we were in control from start to finish.”

Buckley boss Dan Moore was left particularly frustrated by the goals his side conceded against their rivals, who said: “We’ve conceded three sloppy goals which have put us in a difficult position in the game. That’s the most disappointing aspect of the game.

“We know Flint are a good team but they haven’t had to work hard or create anything to score their three goals.”

Buckley headed to the Essity Stadium having played just one game - a 3-1 Welsh Cup defeat to Pontardawe Town - in five weeks.

Moore continued: “We looked sluggish and off the pace especially in possession, our decision making on the ball was poor and it only made life harder for ourselves as we turned the ball over too cheaply, too often.”

Victory for Flint means they remain seven points adrift of leaders Prestatyn Town, who overcame Rhyl 1-0 in-front of almost 1,000 fans.

Danny Davies won it for Prestatyn, who had Alex Jones sent-off late on.

Colwyn Bay are third, seven points behind Flint, following a 3-2 win at Llandudno, who led through Danny Hughes and Alfons Fosu-Mensah. Winning it for the Seagulls were Sion Edwards, Mitch Bryant and Joe Chaplin.

Porthmadog, who entertain Flint on Saturday, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bangor City at Nantporth.

Emmanuel Agyemang scored the only goal of the game after 15 minutes.
