ANDY THOMAS has demanded a ‘big performance’ from Airbus on Friday night as they head to Colwyn Bay in the Welsh Cup.

The third round clash sees the Wingmakers return to action following a humiliating 12-0 home defeat to The New Saints last weekend.

Assistant manager Thomas insists his players cannot afford to dwell on the humbling and must get back on track with a solid display on the North Wales coast.

He said: “It was a tough blow and a hard result to take.

“The fact that a sickness bug affected the squad badly and that lots of our players were under 19 certainly didn’t help us on the day.

“So we move on now and look to put a few things right in the cup.”

Touted as early-season title favourites after joining the Cymru North division from the English pyramid in the summer, Bay have not had an easy ride in the Welsh second tier.

Fourth in the standings, Craig Hogg’s side currently trail pacesetters Prestatyn Town by 13 points.

Thomas is not surprised by the club’s current situation but expects them to come good.

He added: “We know ourselves how tough it is in that division.

“This first season has probably been a bit of a learning curve for them so far, but I imagine there’s a two-year plan in place there to win promotion.

“They’re a well-supported club and we know we’re in for a tough game on Friday night..

“We’re only focused on us though and playing our football - we owe ourselves a big performance and we our supporters one too.”

George Hughes, Alex Darlington and Joe Palmer should all return to the Airbus squad after missing out last weekend.

The only all-Cymru Premier tie takes place at Jenner Park on Saturday when Barry Town United host Newtown while two of the lowest-ranked teams left in the competition also battle it out in South Wales with Cambrian and Clydach Vale making to trip to Swansea University.

Caernarfon Town and Cardiff Met are both favourites to make it through in their respective cup clashes with Goytre United and Pontypridd Town.
