DAVE EVANS wants Queen’s Park to kick-off a three-week cup schedule in style.

Evans’ men head to Prestatyn Sports in the first round of the prestigious competition tomorrow, before doing battle in the Welsh Trophy and Welsh National League Cup over the next fortnight.

Prestatyn Sports are languishing at the wrong end of Welsh Alliance Division One with just one point from eight outings, but Evans isn’t taking them lightly.

“The club are really looking forward to this fixture as it is always good to compete against other teams in different leagues,” said Evans. “We have noted their tough start to the season but we have been informed that they are a very organised side that will be tough to break down.”

Scott Williams will deputise for Joey Jones in goal for Park, who have Tony Jones and Jason Edwards available.

Corwen entertain Colwyn Bay on the back of a morale-boosting first Cymru North win of the season.

A 3-1 success at Conwy Borough on Wednesday, courtesy of a brace by Joe Williams’, pictured, and Owen Cordiner, means Corwen are up and running.

Caretaker boss Nick Jones is relishing the chance to build on the midweek win, and make amends for a 2-0 league loss to Colwyn Bay seven days ago.

“We are confident,” said Jones. “I said to the lads that talent is good, but hard work beats talent and we are working hard and playing with real energy.”
