LUKE NORTHALL led the way for Wrexham with a top 10 finish at the Ellesmere 10K.

Northall clocked an impressive 35:24 to place fifth outright in a 764-strong field at the popular Shropshire race.

Wolverhampton runner Jack Pickett took the race honours in 32:38, with Dudley’s Trevor Shaun (33:30) and Crewe’s Matthew McCormack (34:11) placing second and third respectively.

Wrexham’s Andrew Jones (38:34) was 19th, with Buckley Runners duo David Lemon (25th in 39:17) and Alan Latham (45th in 41:50) following on.

Daniel Weston was the man to catch at the latest Erddig ParkRun, where the Wrexham man topped the rankings in 17:03.

Buckley’s David Jones (21:28) was eighth, with Wrexham’s Peter Hughes (11th in 21:44) following on.

Weston was also fastest for Wrexham AC at the Capenhurst 5k, clocking 16:10 to place third behind Essex runner Ed Shepherd (14:53) and Ellesmere Port’s Dave Bennett (15:54).

Buckley’s Christopher Myles triumphed at the Wepre ParkRun at the weekend, topping the rankings in 18:45.

Clubmate Karl Williams (21:21) was eighth, with Wrexham’s Mike Robbins (21:25) just behind in ninth, and Deeside duo Steve Jolly (21:55) and Alfie Evans (22:00) placing 12th and 13th respectively.

Emma Howe and Laura Turley both represented West Cheshire at the British Track and Field Championships.

Howe launched the javelin to a mark of 43.64m for eighth position at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, less than 9m behind winner Laura Whittingham and nearly 3m clear of British number one heptathlete, Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

And Turley, pictured with 200m champion Adam Gemeli, posted 25.12 seconds for sixth spot in the opening round of the 200m, and 55.30 seconds for fifth position in the opening round of the 400m.

The latest round of the Cheshire Track and Field Junior League will be held in Ellesmere Port on Sunday.
