STEVE HALLIWELL labelled Gresford Athletic’s 2-0 defeat at Llangefni Town as “abysmal”.

A brace from Mathew Jones made sure Llangefni started life in the second-tier in style, while Gresford director of football Halliwell was left seething with his team’s performance.

“It was diabolical,” declared Halliwell. “It was disgusting that we could turn up and put in a performance like that.

“There are no positives to take, it was abysmal and we’ve been punished.

“We knew it would be a tough game, but we couldn’t string two passes together - it was an awful performance and the players have been made aware of my feelings.

“There will be changes to the starting XI next week, because we are in for a long hard season if that’s the level we are going to play to.”

Corwen’s Cymru North debut ended in disappointment as Llandudno recorded a 3-1 home success.

Former Wrexham youth striker Joe Williams converted a penalty to give Corwen the ideal start, but things went downhill from there.

Danny Hughes scored twice prior to the break, before Dean Seager made sure of the points for Llandudno.

Seager tweeted: “Buzzing to get off the mark had to make up for giving away a penno early on, more importantly the 3pts!”

Rob Hughes scored from the spot as Prestatyn Town defeated Guilsfield 1-0, while 10-man Llanfair and Ruthin played out a 1-1 draw.

Gethin Stephens cancelled out Kevin Evans’ opener for Ruthin.
