BRYAN HUGHES wants Wrexham to continue rising to the occasion on their travels.

Although they were beaten 1-0 in the top of the table clash against Leyton Orient in their last away game, the Reds took seven points from a possible nine during a gruelling three matches on the road in the space of eight days during February.

Hughes feels there is less pressure when promotion-chasing Wrexham play away from The Racecourse and with Saturday's trip to Hartlepool followed by the clash at Ebbsfleet United the following weekend, the Reds boss is hoping for more positive performances and results.

"If I look at it as a whole, and I am being honest, I think our performance value has been better away from home than what it has been at home," said Hughes.

"I don't know whether that is the pressure of The Racecourse crowd or whether the players feel that pressure of what they felt last season.

"Getting away from home is not so much of a worry for me now.

"It is somewhere where we can go and relax and hopefully play a bit better, but still be organised and it is about the results."

Wrexham weren't at their best at home to Maidstone last Saturday but on-loan winger Ben Tollitt struck to secure a 1-0 win in his final appearance before returning to Tranmere.

The result was the priority, especially after previously suffering two successive defeats, but Hughes is looking for an improved display at Victoria Park on Saturday.

"The conditions weren't great but it's not about the performance now," said Hughes.

"Even though I do want to put performances on for the fans, it is so important that we get the results at this stage.

"We are going to touch on some of the stuff we are doing on the training ground this week.

"I want us to play better than what we are doing at the moment and look after the ball a bit better.

"But it is all about the results now; the performance element of it, hopefully I can spend a lot more time on that in pre-season but first and foremost it is just getting the results now."
