MIKE FONDOP had no issues with being denied the chance to end his goal-scoring drought from the penalty spot.

Wrexham were awarded their first spot-kick of the season against Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday and Fondop, on as a substitute, picked up the ball to take it.

But Luke Summerfield is the designated penalty taker and he was successful from 12 yards, helping Wrexham seal a 2-1 victory to go second in the National League.

"It is natural to want to take the penalty, especially after a couple of games without scoring," said Fondop.

"It doesn't mean you are going to score but it is a more easier opportunity to score.

"I really wanted to take it but Luke was already told that he was the penalty taker so it wasn't an argument.

"The most important thing is he put it in the back of the net and we won."

Fondop scored five times in the opening six games but hasn't found the net since, with his last goal coming in the 2-2 draw with Bromley on August 25, but the striker is not concerned about the barren run.

"I am not too bothered," said Fondop, who hasn't scored in his last nine appearances and has been used more as a substitute recently.

"I know as a striker that is what I am paid for and that is my job, as well as helping the team. I know eventually it is going to happen.

"The season is really long, we have got 30 more games to go and I believe it is going to come.

"If you start stressing and thinking too much about it you might be really affected so just stay focussed."

Fondop insists it is a team game and Wrexham being successful comes first.

"I knew sometime that this was going to happen, and I would find myself on the bench," added Fondop.

"It is a long season and you can't expect to play every game, sometimes you are rested or others get an opportunity which is happening now.

"But the spirit of the team is really good which is the most important thing."
