FLINT PHOENIX showed that they are in no mood to give up their North East Wales League Division One title with an opening day 7-1 success over Deeside.

The 2017/18 top-flight champions dominated proceedings with Deeside's only winners coming at fourth mixed as Steve Barlow and Jill Povey saw off Andy Gibbons and Holly Gill 15/21, 21/19, 21/15.

Mold A, strengthened by the availability of Wales international Dan Font, were also victorious as they came away from Ruthin with a 6-2 success over Llanferres A.

Angelia You and Sara Jenkins were amongst the Llanferres winners as they fought off Debbie Walker and Jane Peace 21/13, 21/16 at second ladies.

Rossett A made the most of home advantage as they beat Denbigh A 6-2. The match of the evening saw visiting duo Steve Aylott and Beverley Dolman defeat Simon Lane and Sue Lord 22/20, 17/21, 21/17.

Hawarden suggested that they could be amongst the frontrunners for promotion from Division Two by sweeping aside a talented Llanferres B side 7-1.

Lorna Kernahan and Rob Jones combined impressively for Hawarden to beat Howard Robinson and Gill Tustain 21/18, 21/9 at fourth mixed.

Connah's Quay look like they might struggle to return to Division One after they opened their second-tier campaign with a 6-2 defeat at Buckley.

In an entertaining match at first men's, Steve Eltham and Rob Bishop held firm to overcome the young pairing of Charlie Cahill and Amogh Patil 21/19, 21/12.

Prestatyn A got their Division Three campaign off to a promising start as they defeated Flint Phoenix C 6-2, before whitewashing Holywell B.

Glyn Watson and Terry Wynne combined impressively at first men's to beat Flint duo Alfie Moorcroft and Chris Travers, 19/21, 21/13, 21/17, while Jane Hodgson and Claire Atmore were 19/21, 21/13, 21/15 winners over Holywell's Chloe Jones and Hilary Roberts.
