ALEC MUDIMU must have his wits about him as Zimbabwe head into back-to-back African Cup of Nations qualifiers against DR Congo.

Cefn Druids midfielder Mudimu has lined up in the heart of defence for Zimbabwe during his early international career, meaning he could be tasked with trying to shackle Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, Stoke City striker Benik Afobe and former Chelsea attacker Gael Kakuta.

Zimbabwe sit top of Group G, ahead of DR Congo on goal difference, and Mudimu is excited for the challenge of facing their nearest challengers in Kinshasa on Saturday before doing battle in Harare three days later.

Speaking to allafrica.com, Mudimu, who helped Zimbabwe win the COSAFA Cup in June, said: "People might say that the Democratic Republic of Congo have some of the best players who ply their trade in the top leagues in the world but this is football, you have to realise that.

"We believe in our capabilities, we are not intimidated by the stature of the DRC. Of course we have to respect our opponents but that is not to say we fear them."

Due to his international call-up, Mudimu will miss Huw Griffiths' Ancients' Welsh Premier League clash with leaders Connah's Quay Nomads on Tuesday night.
