PENYCAE announced themselves on the Welsh Youth Cup in style with a 6-1 thumping of Porthmadog.

The Wrexham-based outfit were entering the competition for the first ever time, and put down a marker with hat-trick hero Austin Owen leading the way.

Joining Austin on the scoresheet were Alex Rowlands (2) and Tom Edwards.

Coach Gavin Bowen tweeted his delight, writing: “Great performance from the @penycaefc1 u19 lads today in the @FAWales cup. Beating @Porthacademy convincingly 6-1. In the hat for the next round.”

Penycae's reward for beating Porthmadog is a trip to Welsh Premier League outfit Llandudno, who beat Mynydd Isa 3-1, Bowen adding: "Another big fixture in the next round of the #FAWYouthCup for the @penycaefc1 lads."

Brickfield Rangers claimed a 5-2 Wrexham derby success over visiting Llay Welfare thanks to goals from hat-trick ace Tom Williams, Kieran Russell and Jamie Samuels.

Rangers now visit Coedpoeth United, who made light work of Llanrwst to progress, the home side running out 4-1 winners. Ben Palmer struck a hat-trick and Ross Hardy-Partington completed the rout.

Flint Town United claimed the Flintshire bragging rights as they cruised to a 7-0 success at Holywell Town, while Cefn Druids held their nerve to beat Rhyl 5-4 on penalties.

Evan Woodall, Lewis George and Tom Faithfull helped take the game to spot-kicks after Druids had twice gone behind.

Druids manager Shaun Colley saluted his side’s “courage and determination”.

Colley's Ancients now tackle hosts Caernarfon, with Flint handed a home tie against TNS.

Mold Alex are also into the next round - where they entertain Newtown - after they defeated Rhydymwyn 3-1 courtesy of goals from Connor Hopwood, Tom Hyndman and Luke Woolley. Owen Manley scored the Rhydymwyn consolation.

Airbus and Connah's Quay Nomads have entered the competition, the former hosting Aberystwyth with the latter visiting Bangor next month.

Ynysddu Welfare could end up in disciplinary trouble after their fairytale triumph.

The team did not exist before being mistakenly entered for the FAW Youth Cup, but a side was put together following a huge nationwide response to the story on social media.

Ynysddu held only one training session for their hastily-assembled squad, but still managed to eliminate Briton Ferry on penalties after a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

The victory, however, was marred by a pitch invasion during the shoot-out and Ynysddu supporters setting off smoke bombs both before and during the game.

An FAW spokesman said: "We are waiting on the referee's report to see if any action needs to be taken."

Ynysddu, if charged and found guilty, could be fined but manager Ben Murphy does not believe the club has a case to answer.

"Everybody said what a great atmosphere it was on the day," Murphy said. "I spoke to the referee after the game and he didn't say anything other than what a wonderful day it was.

"The smoke bombs were small hand-held devices and certainly not illegal, while the mini-pitch invasion was a result of some fans thinking we had won the shoot-out at a time when we had not."

Ynysddu are set to visit Llanelli in round two, while last year's beaten finalists, Cardiff City, host Tiger Bay.
