SAM WEDGBURY'S contract at Wrexham has been cancelled by mutual consent.
The midfielder joined the Reds last summer after leaving Forest Green Rovers and only signed a new deal in February after impressing in his first season but he has left The Racecourse after holding talks with manager Sam Ricketts.
Ricketts told the official club website: “I have been speaking with all the players who we have under contract to get people ready for next seasons challenge and I only want players who are 100 per cent committed to that journey.
“Having spoken to Sam it was clear that he has been struggling with the distance of travel in for training and that he could not guarantee me the level of commitment for next season we will require.
“It was a tough decision to let Sam leave but we understand the reasons for him wanting to move back home and have made the decision in the best interest of the club and the player.
“Sam has been a popular member of the squad with fans and players alike and on behalf of the club I’d like to thank him for his fine contribution to the club and wish him the very best for the future.”
