WREXHAM could have a new manager in place next week.

The recruitment process to appoint a new manager has been on-going since Dean Keates left to take over as boss of hometown club Walsall in March.

Andy Davies, Keates' right-hand man, is in charge until the end of the season and with the odds stacked heavily against 10th-placed Wrexham making the play-offs, his final game at the helm with be Saturday's clash with AFC Fylde.

Craig Harrison, who worked with Reds' coach Carl Darlington at The New Saints, Welsh international Craig Bellamy and current Solihull Moors manager Mark Yates are among the names linked with The Racecourse hotseat, with a decision expected soon.

"There has been a lot of interest in the role," said director Spencer Harris.

"Some great candidates have come forward and we are looking to appoint someone who can take Wrexham forward and achieve what we all want.

"All different types of managers who have worked in a variety of different roles at different clubs and different levels.

"There is a decent amount of choice to select a candidate to take us forward and achieve what we want; barring a set of results, realistically it is highly unlikely we will make the play-offs.

"We will do our best to win against Fylde and then the focus will be on appointing a new manager as soon as possible after the end of the season."

Davies, who has ruled himself out of the running to be manager, says the new Reds boss will have the final say on the retained list.

"The new manager, whoever that may be coming in, it is important that he has a say on the lads out of contract," said Davies.

"Ultimately he is going to be the manager next season, it won't be me.

"Myself, Carl Darlington and the other staff can help and give opinions on players.

"We know the players, we will have an opinion and say open and honestly what we think but it is important that the new manager has that say."
