Penycae's players handed their wages back following their embarrassing 10-0 loss at Caersws.

Adam Jenkins led the scoring with a hat-trick while Rob Evans and Neil Mitchell bagged doubles and Gareth Sudlow, Graham Evans and Jack Hughes completed the rout.

The defeat has prompted much soul searching to be done at Penycae for boss Simon Sedgwick and assistant Gareth Edwards with the players only too aware that their performance was not acceptable.

Edwards revealed: "The only positive was that the players wouldn't take their money at the end of the game.

"They handed their wages back so at least they know that it was nowhere near good enough."

Trailing 4-0 at the break Penycae's player were handed the challenge of winning the second-half, but a woeful performance saw them beaten 6-0.

"Caersws made us look like chimpanzees," declared Edwards. "The players were laughing about Llanrhaeadr's 11-1 defeat to Rhyl... well 10-0 is no better.

"We were naïve and I am absolutely gutted, I never conceded double-figures as a player and it is not good to have done it in my fledgling coaching career."

Rhydymwyn manager Danny Seamarks revealed that he thought his side's 7-3 defeat at Guilsfield was a 'wind-up'.

Seamarks was forced to stay at home rather than travel to Guilsfield and was left relying on text messages for information on the clash.

When he received an update saying that Rhyd, led on the day by Paul Calligaris, were losing 4-0 after 20 minutes he thought that he was part of an elaborate joke.

Unfortunately for him he wasn't and despite goals from Sam Roberts, Danny Nolan and Dave Bryan, Rhyd were beaten 7-3.

"I am obviously very disappointed with the result," said Seamarks. "I thought it may have been a wind up when I ad a fourth text saying we were 4-0 down after 20 minutes." He added: "It will be interesting against Caersws next week if both teams carry on with their current form."

Buckley Town recorded their second consecutive goalless draw as Porthmadog left Globe Way with a point.

Porthmadog could have opened the scoring but for a goal-line clearance from Joe Freeman, while Buckley had a few half chances of their own to break the deadlock.

As it were neither side found the back of the net and the spoils were shared to leave Buckley chief Gareth Thomas content.

He said: "It is another point and a cleansheet."

The state of the Globe Way playing surface was of greater concern to Thomas, who admitted: "I can't believe we have played the game.

"The rain bounced down on Thursday and playing the game means that there is no grass on the pitch."

Huw Griffiths was gracious in defeat as Rhyl opened up what he described as an insurmountable 10-point advantage over Cefn Druids.

The Ancients boss held his hands up and admitted that Greg Strong's Lilywhites deserved to take all three points from their meeting at The Rock, although Griffiths did admit doubt as to whether the 4-1 scoreline was a true reflection.

Gareth Edwards cancelled out an effort by Marc Evans to draw Druids level, but a mix of luck and goalkeeping errors saw Rhyl add three goals through Stefan Halewood, Danny Hughes and Paul McManus.

"Rhyl were very organised, mobile and clinical," explained Griffiths. "Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say that the opposition were very good and they are the best side we have played in the Cymru Alliance this season.

"Rhyl would say they have played really well and they have a bit more guile than last season and players that stand up and be counted."

In contrast, Griffiths was left disappointed with certain members of his side.

"I was proud of seven players and four let me down," he continued. "A few of our players didn't turn up and I told them after that I was disappointed."

Conwy Borough moved to within three points of third-placed Druids courtesy of their 3-0 success at Llanrhaeadr.

Lloyd Ellams handed Conwy a ninth minute lead before Lee Davey and Scott Beckett completed the scoring.

Flint remain in fifth following their 3-2 home victory over Ruthin Town.

Ryan Hedges handed Flint a lead which was cancelled out just two minutes later from the spot, Stuart Hayes firing home.

Paul Williams and Shaun Beck climbed off the bench to net further goals for Flint, and although Ruthin pulled another effort back late on, the home side held onto all three points.

Flint boss Paul Davies was pleased with the performance of his team, admitting: "We've played really, really good football in the last two weeks.

"The only complaint is that we give silly goals away and nothing is easy, we can't just sit back and enjoy the game."

Davies also reserved praise for Williams and Beck, adding: "Paul came on and looked back to his old self and he scored one and set up Shaun's goal.

Holyhead Hotspur were held 2-2 at home by Penrhyncoch and Rhayader Town picked up a 2-1 win at Llandudno thanks to goals from Gareth Lloyd Hughes and Andy Oakley.

Peter Jones scored for Llandudno, who have appointed Alan Morgan as their new manager having parted company with Deiniol Graham and assistant Mark Hewitt late last week.
