IT APPEARS that Wrexham has another two famous faces to their ever-growing list of celebrity supporters.

The takeover of the club by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in early 2021 has boosted its reputation to unprecedented levels.

That, coupled with the highly-successful Welcome to Wrexham documentary, has also drawn in new supporters from around the world - including a number of celebrities.

The likes of Hugh Jackman, Will Ferrell and Jack Whitehall have all expressed admiration for the club in the past.

Now, another iconic pair of British actors have posed for a picture in some Wrexham shirts.

Jason Watkins, who has starred in the likes of 'The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries', 'Line of Duty' and 'The Crown' over the years shared a photo on Twitter over the weekend.

It featured Watkins with Monty Python and Fawlty Towers icon John Cleese as the pair were all smiles as they donned their Wrexham shirts.

The picture was posted as the Reds drew 3-3 with Sheffield United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, January 29.

Watkins compared himself and Cleese to Wrexham's dynamic duo of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer.

He said: "Here they are, Televisions Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin. Be very proud! Wrexham AFC"

The actor has previously told the story behind the picture of him and Cleese in their Wrexham shirts - as it was actually taken a few years ago.

Speaking to the Daily Mail at the time, he said: "I worked with John Cleese on the TV series Hold The Sunset. I also told him about my brief flirtation with professional football at Wrexham in the late 1970s – I went to pre-season training twice and played a couple of friendlies in the youth team.

"Two days later he presented me with a Wrexham AFC shirt as a surprise gift, and then he turned up wearing one too."

Watkins was also Tweeting his reactions as the goals went in for Wrexham in their thrilling 3-3 draw.

James Jones, Tom O'Connor and Paul Mullin were all on target for the Reds, but a replay will be needed after the draw.

A home tie against Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur then awaits the winner of that match in the fifth round of the historic cup competiton.
