A PARK needs your support in order to purchase a new fitness facility and equipment.

Llanferres children's playground and community park, situated between Mold and Ruthin off the A494, has been shortlisted for a £5,000 prize from the Calor Rural Community Fund.

The money will contribute towards building a new outdoor gymnasium fitness facility, the final choice of equipment being made through public consultation.

To win the money, Sean Thomas, Chairman of the charity, which manages and fund raises the volunteer run facility, said they need public support.

He added: "This is a competition, and we need the public to get online and vote to support us with "likes (1pt)", "sharing (1pt)" and especially £1 donations (or higher if can afford it) for 10pts to be in with a chance to win the £5,000.

The Park in Llanferres is used by families from a wide area including Ruthin and the Vale of Clwyd.

The local community not only make use of the park, but also volunteer time with maintenance working parties, the most recent one at the end March had over 40 people from four to 80 years old, donating over 80 hours of time.

Sean said: "We want to thank everyone in anticipation of their support which has a deadline of July 7."

Anyone wishing to vote can do so online at https://communityfund.calor.co.uk/llanferres-park---outdoor-gym-equipment.

The appeal reads: "We've an objective to offer our community something new and help people's physical and mental well-being at the same time. Traditionally, parks and playgrounds have been local community hubs, offering an open space for leisure activities everyone could enjoy.

"People’s interests have changed, especially with Covid-19 forcing more home working, so the role of parks also needs to develop to stay relevant as a local community space.

"By installing a range of outdoor fitness equipment for adults we will offer a wide range of benefits for individuals, the community and enhance the park itself for visitors of varying ages.

"The cost of the project is estimated just under £10,000, and is part of a bigger programme of work and further fund raising to replace some ageing play equipment and fix some infrastructure problems with pathwork and drainage system.

"During the Summer of 2021 we'll be running several public consultation events including a public meeting and an online survey which we want as many people as possible to attend or take part in."
