I WAS really disappointed with the decision by the Welsh Government-run Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) to close the Alyn Family Doctors’ Gresford branch.

Alongside the Community Council, I have been working extremely hard to avoid this happening.

Most worryingly, the casework that my office has received does not tally with what BCUHB is saying about patient satisfaction.

Given the pressure on primary care and the difficulty in accessing a GP appointment, the last thing that BCUHB should be doing is closing GP surgeries.

I would still like to hear your views on the service you have received over the last few months.

If you would like to share your views, head over to my website and fill in the health survey on the top bar at www.sarahatherton.org.uk/healthcare-wrexham.

In other health news, having joined North Wales Conservative colleagues in calling for an urgent police investigation into the BCUHB scandal, I was pleased to meet with Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman and Assistant Chief Constable Chris Allsop to discuss this issue. A recent report revealed that senior executives of the Board allegedly conspired to falsify accounts, altered documents, and made misleading statements to Board members and Welsh Government and Audit Wales officials.

This level of dishonesty is frankly disturbing and something that the police should take up now. While Wrexham residents are losing their lives waiting for ambulances and doctors’ appointments, executive board members - on six-figure salaries – are conspiring and giving out fake information. Once I receive an update from the police, I will share the news with residents via my website and social media.

Last Friday, it was a pleasure to welcome the Acton and Marford Guides to Parliament. The guides were given a full tour of the historic Houses of Parliament and were able to see the inner workings of Westminster. Later on, they had the chance to quiz me about my day-to-day job as Wrexham’s MP, and ask about our city centre, green spaces, and litter picking in Wrexham!

It was fantastic to see how engaged the guides were in both Parliament and our democracy – not to mention rallying behind Wrexham! It is always a pleasure to meet community groups from Wrexham. If you are a leader of a community group who would like to take up this opportunity, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office by emailing sarah.atherton.mp@parliament.uk – we would be more than happy to help.

Lastly, don’t forget to take advantage of my Pothole Reporting Tool, if you come across any dangerous potholes in Wrexham!

Following my transport survey and numerous conversations with concerned residents, I launched a dedicated portal on my website where residents can report problem potholes on our roads. In March this year, the UK Government significantly increased the funding provided to English councils to fix pothole-plagued roads. I am asking the Welsh Government to follow suit by increasing Wrexham Council funding to address road quality in Wrexham. You can report any potholes via www.sarahatherton.org.uk/report-pothole.

If you are a Wrexham resident and need my help with any issue, please don’t hesitate to contact me by email on sarah.atherton.mp@parliament.uk.
