A WOMAN who was subjected to a violent attack by a former partner and suffered years of alcohol dependency was found dead at her home, an inquest heard.
Cheryl Ann Woodfin, aged 47, of Rollason Grove, Sealand, died on April 12, 2026.
The inquest, at Ruthin's Coroner's Court on Tuesday, November 3, heard that Cheryl had experienced a history of domestic abuse, including a serious assault by a former boyfriend which left her blind in one eye.
Her brother, Barry Woodfin, provided a statement on behalf of the family, which was read out by John Gittins, His Majesty's Senior Coroner for North Wales (East and Central), at the inquest.
He described how Cheryl had endured a "horrifying attack" by her then boyfriend.
Following the assault, Cheryl was rehomed from Shotton to Sealand.
She subsequently suffered from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and drank heavily.
This caused strain on her relationship with her family.
Cheryl's mother, Jennifer Woodfin, had been in contact with her around two weeks before her death.
The inquest heard that Jennifer went to Cheryl’s home, where she found her daughter and formally identified her.
Pathologist Brian Rogers provided evidence about Cheryl's medical history and the findings of the post-mortem examination.
He told the inquest there was evidence of chronic alcohol abuse, including damage to the pancreas and fatty changes to the liver.
The pathologist found no evidence to suggest she had suffered a recent assault.
The inquest heard that hypothermia and hepatorenal failure were among the immediate causes of death.
Mr Gittins concluded Cheryl's death was alcohol-related.
The inquest heard that Cheryl had been dependent on alcohol some years.
"She had serious alcohol problems and had been in an abusive relationship," the inquest heard.
