Ryanair has confirmed it will be making a major change to its luggage rules from next week, affecting passengers across the UK, including those travelling from Manchester Airport.

The change is expected to affect millions of people who fly with Ryanair.

If you're taking a trip soon and are flying with Ryanair, it's worth keeping up to date with the airline’s policies to avoid being caught out at the airport.

Manchester Airport passengers warned amid Ryanair changes to luggage rules

Ryanair has confirmed it will be changing its rules around airport check-ins and bag drops.

From November 10, the airline will be giving passengers less time to drop off their luggage before their flight.

The new rule means Ryanair will close all of its airport bag drop desks and physical check-in counters 60 minutes before the flight’s departure time.

Previously, the airline allowed passengers to drop off their luggage up to 40 minutes before their flight.

The change aims to give passengers more time to clear airport queues, such as security checks and passport control queues, before their flights.

The airline has said the extra 20 minutes will help to run operations more smoothly.

Ryanair has said the change should help reduce the number of travellers who miss their flights because of delays at the airport.

The rule impacts anyone with checked luggage or those who require physical check-in assistance at the airport.

If you have either a 10kg or 20kg checked bag, you must make sure it has gone through the bag drop at least an hour before your scheduled flight time.

Ryanair CMO, Dara Brady, said: “From Tues, 10 Nov, bag drop services at all Ryanair airports will close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, instead of the current 40 minutes.

“This small change will give the 20% of Ryanair passengers who check in a bag more time to clear airport security and passport control queues and get to their departure gate before boarding begins, particularly during busy travel periods when airport queues can be longer.

“We remind passengers using airport bag drop services to arrive at the airport in good time and ensure they have checked in and dropped their bags before check-in and bag drop closes 60 minutes before departure.

“The remaining 80% of passengers who check in online and do not check in a bag are unaffected by this change.”
