North Wales is braced for another spell of heavy rain and strong winds on Saturday as Storm Boelo arrives hot on the heels of Storm Austen.

The latest Met Office forecast for Wales says Saturday, October 24, will bring widespread heavy rain and potentially disruptive winds, which could reach severe gale force around the coast.

In Wrexham, heavy rain is forecast on Saturday, with gusts reaching up to 43mph and temperatures peaking at 15C.

Nearby Llay is also forecast to see maximum gusts of 43mph.

Across the border in Flintshire, wet and windy conditions are also expected as the storm moves in from the west.

The unsettled weather will extend across the rest of North Wales, with the strongest conditions around western and coastal areas.

In Caernarfon, the Met Office is forecasting heavy rain, temperatures reaching 16C and maximum gusts of 56mph on Saturday.

The Met Office's latest Wales forecast says: "Another wet and windy day as Storm Boelo pushes in from the west.

"Widespread heavy rain and disruptive winds, these reaching severe gale force along coasts.

Maximum temperature 16C."

The rain will follow a mostly dry Friday night, although rain is expected to arrive from the west during the early hours.

Winds will slowly ease overnight before beginning to pick up along the west coast by dawn.

Storm Boelo is a separate low-pressure system from Storm Austen, which has brought strong winds and heavy rain to Wales on Friday.

The Met Office says Austen will clear into the North Sea by Friday evening, before Boelo approaches from the Atlantic.

Heavy rain associated with Boelo is expected to move in from the west during Saturday and spread widely across the UK, while wind strength builds through the day.

Although North Wales is set for disruptive weather, the strongest winds associated with Storm Boelo are currently expected further north.

Warnings issued specifically for Boelo cover Northern Ireland, Scotland and the far north of England.

The Met Office says widespread gusts of 55mph to 65mph are possible within the warning area covering Scotland and the far north of England, with winds potentially reaching 70mph to 80mph in more exposed coastal locations.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Chris Bulmer said: "Storm Boelo will bring strong winds and heavy rain to Northern Ireland, Scotland and parts of northern England over the weekend, impacting the opposite end of the country to Storm Austen.

"Gusts of 70-80mph in exposed coastal areas and high ground are possible, with 50-60mph gusts more widely.

"The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy rain, making for an impactful weekend of weather.

Severe weather warnings and forecast detail will continue to develop, so people should keep up to date with the forecast over the next few days."

Conditions across Wales are forecast to become brighter on Sunday, with isolated showers, although the Met Office says it will remain windy until the evening.

The unsettled spell is then expected to return at the beginning of next week, with rain and strong winds arriving early on Monday.
