A PERMANENT fix has been planned for a main Flintshire road which people fear is "collapsing",

Residents have raised concerns over a deteriorating road surface on Chester Road in Pentre.

Local resident Ian Gibbons described the situation as a "potential disaster in the making", claiming the road between Sandycroft Primary School and the Chemistry Lane traffic lights is beginning to "collapse".

"We have a potential disaster in the making," he said. "The road along from Pentre by the school to the Chemistry Lane lights is collapsing.

"The biggest danger is that traffic is moving to the right to avoid the holes and placing themselves in danger from oncoming traffic."

The concerns were reported to Flintshire County Council, which has since inspected the location.

Responding to the complaints, Katie Wilby, Chief Officer for Streetscene and Transportation, said council officers had assessed the road and arranged repairs.

She said: "The location was inspected this morning and a temporary repair will be completed today (Wednesday, October 21), with a permanent repair programmed within the following two weeks."

The council's response is likely to provide reassurance to residents who had warned the damaged section of road posed a risk to motorists, particularly during busy periods when traffic levels are higher.

Temporary works are expected to make the area safe while arrangements are made for the longer-term repair.

The permanent fix is scheduled to be completed within the next fortnight.
