A FLINTSHIRE pub is set to reopen after being forced to close following flooding caused by a burst pipe.

The Royal Oak in Holywell announced on social media that it would be welcoming customers back today (Thursday, October 22) after carrying out a major clean-up operation.

Photos shared by the pub, which reopened in July this year under new management, showed areas affected by the flooding on Monday (October 20), and the clean-up work that followed.

Speaking to The Leader, Chris Ashcroft, the owner of Cs Public Houses Ltd which operates the pub, said the flooding had thankfully not caused significant structural damage.

"There's just water damage on the roof, so a good clean and dry and a lick of paint and we will be back open tomorrow, thankfully," he said.

Chris praised local residents who stepped in to help during the recovery effort, describing the response from the community as "amazing".

"When we opened to see water running everywhere like a waterfall I was absolutely devastated as we had just started getting regular customers after our recent price slash," he said.

"I put the post on to inform we would be closed and the response was fantastic and reaffirmed what we already felt that the community is amazing.

"We had people coming down offering to help on the clean up and offer their services to repair for free to get the pub back open.

"We can only say how amazing the community is and thank you so, so much."

The Royal Oak recently slashed its prices by around 40p a pint as it looks to get more people through the door amid the cost of living crisis.

The reopening will come as welcome news for regulars and customers, with the venue aiming to resume normal service following the disruption.
