Wrexham Clothing Exchange supports Second Hand September

Wrexham Clothing Exchange is again supporting the campaign, continuing a mission it has championed for years by encouraging people to choose pre-loved fashion and reduce clothing waste.

Its monthly clothing swap events help Wrexham people to refresh their wardrobes sustainably, save money and keep quality clothes in circulation for longer. Every garment reused through a swap is one less item that needs to be manufactured and one less item at risk of ending up in landfill. This month's event is on Saturday (September 12), at Lle Hapus, Eagles Meadow, from 11am-2pm.

The clothing swaps offer a simple way for individuals to reduce their environmental impact by extending the life of clothing, swappers help conserve resources, reduce carbon emissions and support a more circular approach to fashion.

Wrexham Clothing Exchange lead, Sharon Rogers, said "As part of Second Hand September, we'd love to invite people to join us at our next clothing swap on Saturday. It's a fantastic opportunity to give unwanted clothes a new life, find some amazing new-to-you pieces and meet like-minded people who are passionate about sustainable fashion. Whether you're a regular swapper or thinking about coming along for the first time, you'll be made very welcome."

Speaking on the swap's anniversary next month, Sharon added: "We're incredibly excited to be celebrating our seventh birthday this October. Over the past seven years, Wrexham Clothing Exchange has helped keep thousands of garments in use for longer, reducing waste while making sustainable fashion accessible and affordable. What started as a simple idea has grown into a thriving community, and we're proud of the positive impact our swappers have made for both people and the planet."

Swap trustee, Amy West said: "One of the things that makes the last seven years of Wrexham Clothing Exchange so special is the wonderful community that has grown around it. Our swaps are attended by groups of friends, couples, mothers and daughters, sisters and colleagues, all coming together to enjoy a more sustainable way of refreshing their wardrobes.

"People often arrive for the clothes but stay for the atmosphere. New visitors are always given a warm welcome, and it's not uncommon to see first-time swappers become regular attendees and make lasting friendships along the way. We are particularly proud of how volunteers have created this atmosphere of friendship."

Amy added: "Second Hand September perfectly reflects what we've been doing for years. Every item swapped helps reduce waste and shows that clothes don't need to be brand new to have value. We're incredibly proud of the friendly community we've built, and as we prepare to celebrate our seventh birthday this October, we'd love to welcome even more people to discover the benefits of swapping."
