Police warning after vehicle crime reports in Cymau

Officers from the Flintshire South policing team said several incidents have been reported in recent days involving cars and vans.

Police said that in each case, it appears an offender has gained access to the vehicle by opening a door before rummaging through the contents inside.

Residents are being urged to report any information which could help officers, as well as any suspicious activity they notice in the area.

The force has also reminded communities across South Flintshire of measures they can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of vehicle crime.

Drivers are being advised not to leave valuables on display and, wherever possible, to remove belongings from vehicles altogether.

Police have also stressed the importance of locking vehicles and closing windows, even when a car or van is parked on a driveway at home.

Keys should be kept out of sight and away from front doors, with police warning that thieves can sometimes attempt to steal them from inside properties through letterboxes.

Motorists are also encouraged to park in well-lit areas, preferably where CCTV is available, and to consider additional security measures such as steering wheel, gear lever or clutch pedal locks.

Those with keyless-entry vehicles are being advised to keep both their main and spare keys inside a signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday bag.

This can help prevent so-called relay theft, where criminals use technology to make a vehicle believe its key is nearby, allowing it to be unlocked and potentially started.
