Planning appeals over two Flintshire Traveller sites

Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW), the Welsh Government's planning inspectorate, is considering appeals over sites in Sandycroft and Flint.

Both applications are seeking retrospective planning permission from PEDW.

The Flint site involves a parcel of land north of Chester Road where permission is sought for a three-pitch Traveller family site.

The development, which has already taken place, also involved the building of a day room and boundary fencing.

A planning statement said the is application is retrospective - with the applicant having carried out the work to his land because there are "no alternative or available" places in Flintshire for him and is family to live.

The Sandycroft site involves land off Mancot Lane, close to Chester Road East.

A four-pitch Traveller family site was built on the land but was twice denied planning permission by Flintshire Council - amid flooding concerns and loss of green space.

The development involves the erection of four day rooms boundary fencing and landscaping.

In a planning statement, the applicant argued there are "exceptional circumstances" that outweigh the loss of green land.

The statement said these include personal and medical circumstances, a significant unmet need and no available or deliverable alternative sites or pitches.

Both appeals are under consideration by PEDW - with decisions pending.
