A MAN has been spared jail after police found indecent images of young girls on his devices.

Steven Elsworth, of Cross Street in Oswestry, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court for sentence on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old had previously admitted three offences of making indecent images of children - one each at categories A, B and C - which took place in Wrexham, where the defendant then lived.

Suzanne Cartwright told the court that police executed a warrant at the address on August 1, 2024, and seized a number of Elsworth's devices.

When they were examined, 29 images and 41 videos at category A (the most serous) were found, as well as 34 images and 24 movies at category B and one image at category C.

It was noted that the children depicted in the images were predominantly females aged between five and seven.

In interview, he confirmed having downloaded the images.

The court heard Elsworth had no previous convictions.

Bethan Jones, defending, referred the court to an 'extremely complimentary' pre-sentence report.

Having heard the intention of District Judge Gwyn Jones to impose a suspended sentence, Ms Jones made very limited submissions - save to say her client was a man who has "extreme health difficulties."

The Judge handed down an overall sentence of 26 weeks, but suspended it for 24 months with 25 rehabilitation activity days.

Elsworth must pay £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge.

He was also made subject to notification requirements as a sex offender for seven years and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
