A SPONTANEOUS boat trip from the Wirral to North Wales turned into a magical wildlife encounter when a keen photographer spotted dolphins playing off the Great Orme.

Kirsty Carroll was on board the 6.15pm Great Orme Sea-life Voyage, run by AquaTour from Conwy, with her husband on Saturday, August 8.

The couple had travelled from the Wirral to Conwy for the trip, as part of a spontaneous afternoon out.

Kirsty, who has always loved taking photographs, was sitting at the front of the boat when she spotted the first dolphin near the Great Orme.

Kirsty said: "The boat tour itself was brilliant. The skipper, Michael, was really friendly and professional. We had originally set sail hoping to see the seals. As myself and my husband were sat at the front of the boat it was actually myself who spotted the first dolphin by the Great Orme. We were supposed to go to the Little Orme, however the dolphins stole the show, rightly so, so the decision to stay and watch them play was made.

"We have never witnessed dolphins out in the wild before so it really was magical to see.

"After sharing my photographs, I've actually been told that a mother and calf can be identified in one of my photographs, so that feels somewhat extra special."

Kirsty Carroll, who was informed by a sea life auditor that the beautiful image she captured, with Llandudno Pier in the background, showed a mother and calf, launched her Facebook and Instagram page about 18 months ago - Carrollcaptures88.

Kirsty said: "I've always loved taking photographs.

"I'm usually the person in the group who stops to take one more picture, however I decided to take it up as hobby when my husband bought me my first camera last year."

Kirsty, who has spent a fair bit of time in Llandudno and is a fan of Alice in Wonderland, as well as the town itself, added that it was "something very magical seeing these beauties in their natural habitat."
