Short break service for children with complex needs praised

Based in Mold, Arosfa provides respite care and support for children and young people, and was recently inspected by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), which gathered glowing feedback from families, professionals and staff.

Parents praised the "child-centred" approach and described the service as "absolutely amazing," with one saying their child is cared for "almost like family," while another said they "couldn't be without Arosfa."

The positive feedback highlighted the value of respite care, improved family wellbeing, and the strong, trusting relationships built with staff.

Jude Vaughan, registered manager at Arosfa, said: "We are delighted by the feedback shared with us.

"It is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the children's families and the professionals we work alongside.

"Our team is passionate about helping children thrive, supporting families and creating positive experiences for every young person who comes through our doors."

Ms Vaughan said: "It's a very special service, being both a short breaks and a residential service, and I am incredibly proud of the commitment and dedication shown by every member of the Arosfa team."

The service recently hosted a summer party for families, organised by staff to create a welcoming, inclusive environment and celebrate the young people they support.

The event brought together children, parents, and siblings for a day of laughter, games, and connection, including a bouncy castle, glitter tattoos, a lucky dip, garden games, and sensory trays.

Children of staff members were also invited to join the celebrations.

Ms Vaughan said: "The summer party earlier this month was a wonderful example of what makes Arosfa special.

"It was lovely to see families coming together, children enjoying themselves and parents having the chance to connect with one another in such a positive environment."

The event also gave parents and carers an opportunity to share experiences, develop support networks, and build friendships with others who understand the challenges they face.

CIW's inspection found that all staff who responded to its survey rated the care at Arosfa as "excellent," and reported feeling well-supported with strong opportunities for learning and development.

Professionals also praised the team’s "flexibility, innovation and ability to deliver tailored care" for each individual child and family.
