A WREXHAM man has been fined after police caught him with a wrap of cocaine.

Scott Campbell, of Wilson Avenue, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old admitted that on May 24, he had in his possession a quantity of cocaine.

Prosecutor Joe Stephenson told the court that at around midnight on the date in question, police were called to an address in Wrexham where the defendant was present and said to be "heavily intoxicated."

Due to his behaviour, and in order to prevent any further issues, he was arrested.

When searched, he was found to have a wrap of white powder, which was later confirmed to be cocaine.

Melissa Griffths, defending, told the court that her client is in receipt of universal credit and that any financial impositions could be deducted from his benefits.

"There isn't a problem with cocaine," she said.

"He'd been to a party and bought a wrap.

"There were also no offences arising out of his original offence."

District Judge Gwyn Jones fined Campbell £200 and ordered him to pay £85 costs, as well as an £80 victim surcharge.
