A WREXHAM man has been handed extra unpaid work hours after breaching his community order.

Dominic Evans, of Bryn Goleu in Southsea, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old admitted that he failed to comply with the requirements of a court order.

Evans was made subject to his 12-month community order with 160 hours of unpaid by Wrexham Magistrates Court on November 11 last year.

The court heard from probation officer Rachel Prince that the breach arose from his failure to attend planned unpaid work appointments.

He also failed to provide evidence of any reasonable cause for his failure to attend.

Thus far, Evans has completed 63 of the 160 unpaid work hours imposed upon him, Ms Prince confirmed.

Stephen Edwards, defending, told the court: "Mr Evans is the full-time carer for his mother and that's really where the problems have arisen.

"I suspect that with better communication about the care of his mum, we wouldn't have been in this scenario."

Mr Edwards accepted the usual stance on breached court orders was "two strikes and out" but he asked the court to consider a different course of action, telling the Magistrates: "He is fully committed to completing these hours."

The Court decided to extend the length of the community order by six months and imposed 40 additional unpaid work hours, as well as £65 costs.
