THE team at a North Wales animal rescue centre is looking for new homes for their adorable residents.
North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) have cats, dogs, horses and some smaller animals, all hoping to find their forever home.
The staff and volunteers at the Trelogan-based charity, in Flintshire, know the animals as individuals, and therefore know what kind of home they are more likely to thrive in.
Whether it's a dog, cat, rabbit or horse, staff are on hand to advise on the character and suitability of each.

They also make sure potential new owners are aware of the ongoing costs of a pet, including food and vet bills, which can often be for unexpected treatment.
But thankfully there are plenty of responsible, loving people and families looking to give an animal a loving new home.
And there are always animals of all types, ages and needs that will be the perfect match.
• For more details about the animals or volunteering, visit ncar.org.uk or if you would like to support the charity without adopting, you can visit their cafe - Doris's Bunker - open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10.30am to 3.30pm. They also accept donations at the centre between 10am and 4pm.
Here we meet just some of those at NCAR looking for a new home...
Holly, waiting for adoption from NCAR.
• Hound Holly is such a beautiful girl who came in as a stray in December 2023. About three-and-a-half years old, she is a lovely girl who has lots of love to give. She is affectionate and cuddly with people she knows but can be initially quite timid, however she is easily won round with time and treats. She can be timid of new environments but does tend to look to her handler for guidance. However, once she settles she really enjoys being out and about on adventures or running around our secure off lead areas here at the rescue. She can be a bit strong when she wants to be, so will need owners that are physically capable of handling her strength. Her recall is quite hit and miss, typical of her breed. But she is very food motivated which definitely helps with training. Since she has been with us she has met a large variety of different dogs and has been fantastic with them, she walks well with them and has also showed great social skills when off lead with them too. She has the potential to live with a compatible dog as long as the introductions go well here at the rescue. Being a hound, Holly would not be suitable to live with cats or other small furries. Due to her coming into us as a stray, we don't have any background history on her but she has been in two foster homes, which allowed us to learn more about her and we can explain her more to anyone interested. Holly will require a secure garden with tall fences.Overall she is an amazing girl who is a firm favourite here at NCAR and we hope a suitable home comes along for her soon!
Scout, waiting for adoption from NCAR.
• Nine-year-old Scout is a handsome boy who came into our care after being found as a stray, which means we have no background history on him. He arrived with us in April 2024 and has sadly been waiting for a chance of a forever home since. Scout is a goofball. He is clumsy and silly and to Scout almost everything is just amazing. He loves people, he loves water, he loves toys, he especially loves mud, he loves to run, he loves to snooze, he loves a cup of tea - Scout just loves life. There are a few things Scout isn't fond of and one of those things is other dogs. He will shout and pull if he sees one but he is easily managed with correct handling, snacks and just keeping your distance if necessary. Scout is gen con trained to help manage his strength on lead and walks really nicely most of the time. He can be left alone for a couple of hours without issue, and travels well in the car for short journeys. He loves adventures especially beach visits or anything where he can get wet and muddy. Scout is fully house trained. He is looking for a home with teens, he loves to play but does not know his size and is very clumsy. He would love a garden to play in and will only require short sniff walks. Scout may be an older boy and be a bit rough around the edges but he is truly sunshine in dog form. He really deserves to find his retirement home to settle into. Scout has recently had one of his eyes removed due to it developing a few problems resulting in blindness, pain and swelling and it was decided that removal would be in his best interest. It is safe to say that he certainly feels a lot better without his poorly eye and has bounced back to his usual happy self.
Nova, waiting for adoption from NCAR.
• Collie cross Nova is a sweet girl who has come into our care for rehoming due to her owner's ill health. About four years-old, she is very friendly, energetic and fun. She has been used to a fairly quiet home with just two adults, so is looking for a home with older dog-savvy children aged 12+ in her next home. Nova has previously lived on a securely fenced small holding alongside four other dogs, two cats, horses and chickens without issue so has potential to live with compatible animals in her next home as long as introductions can be done sensibly. Nova is looking for a home where she won't be left for long periods, and where the time she is left for can be built up gradually. In her previous home Nova wasn't used to going for many walks away from her owner's land, so is now building up her confidence out and about, she is taking all of this into her stride but this work may need continuing by her next owners. She is an energetic girl who will require plenty of daily exercise and mental stimulation to keep her satisfied. Nova loves toys, especially balls and does bring the ball back to you but she can be impulsive and snatchy at times. She will make an amazing adventure buddy and would likely be ideal for some sort of dog sport like Flyball, Agility or even Cani-Cross. Nova will likely require some training in a few different areas, so new owners must be willing to put some work into her if needed. She is very food orientated and greedy, which will aid in her training massively. She really does have so much potential.
Nugget, waiting for adoption from NCAR.
• Four-and-a-half year old American Bully Nugget is a friendly dog that arrived as a stray in March 2025. She was adopted last year, but has sadly been returned due to her behaviour in the home. Nugget is a friendly girl with everyone she meets. When she first arrived at the rescue, she was very playful and cheeky, she loved our off-lead paddock and playing with toys. She was friendly and always wanted to say hi to people during her stay in a home. She lived in an adult only home, and reportedly fine around kids outside of the home, but due to her coming in as a stray and her adult-only previous home, we are looking at a home with adults only. We can reassess this for the right home with older sensible children. When Nugget arrived to the rescue, we did some testing with her around dogs and it was mostly positive. She was friendly, but could be quite intense and unsure if they reacted to her. She was sadly returned to the rescue due to biting two dogs. Her previous home said she would be interested and want to interact with other dogs, but if they reacted/snapped at her, she would react. She can be strong on lead, but has improved since last year. She is house trained, both here and in a home, travels well in the car and is well behaved at the vets. Generally she is a fab girl, she's very playful with toys, loves people and can be a funny, crazy girl.
Bunny, waiting for adoption from NCAR.
• Seven-year-old lurcher cross Bunny is a lovely girl who has come into our care as a stray and no one has come forward to claim her. Bunny only has three legs but this doesn't hold her back or phase her at all! She is a friendly girl who loves meeting new people and giving hugs and kisses, she can be boisterous at times, so we feel she will be best suited to a home with sensible children aged 12+ in her next home. During her stay so far she has shown interest in playing with other dogs, we will continue to test her around dogs during her stay with us. She may have potential to live with a compatible dog in her next home, one that is similar sized will be best. We feel she will also thrive as the only pet in the home. Due to us not having any history on Bunny she is looking for a cat free home. She loves her walks and being out and about so will require daily exercise in her next home. She can pull on lead at times so will need more work in this area.
Tyson, waiting for adoption from NCAR.
• Sic-year-old Labrador-Staffie cross Tyson is a sweet and energetic boy who found himself in our care as his previous owners were unable to devote the time he deserves. He has been with us for a couple of years now, and we really can't understand why! Despite not receiving any training or being walked on a lead until he came into us, Tyson is eager to learn and has already shown improvement during his time with us. Tyson is a friendly boy with people and will meet his best friends with a big jump and a kiss. He will be a great adventure companion as he is always eager to go for walks and explore new places. However, it's clear Tyson hasn't seen much of the outside world as he can be overwhelmed sometimes. But with a confident handler, he will thrive in a home. Tyson is looking for a home with adults only. Tyson isn't a fan of other dogs and will bark at some especially if they bark at him first, other times he is happy to ignore them and carry on sniffing - he loves quiet walks away from busy areas as he can relax fully then. He can be strong on lead at times so new owners must be able to handle his strength. Tyson is a big lover of toys so would love a garden of his own to play in but requires high fences. Overall, Tyson is a wonderful dog with a lot of potential, and we are confident that with a patient, loving, and experienced owner, he will thrive and make a great addition to any family.
